Often, a child might not qualify for school or community-based therapy even when a disorder is present, or their family might prefer more individualized therapy than is offered at their child's school.
Private speech therapy and school-based therapy differ in several ways, including:
Scope of Services: Private speech therapy typically provides one-on-one sessions with the therapist and can cover a broader range of speech and language issues, while school-based therapy may be more limited in scope due to the therapist's caseload and time constraints.
Setting: Private speech therapy is typically provided in a clinic or private practice setting, while school-based therapy is usually provided in a school or educational setting.
Schedule: Private speech therapy sessions may be more flexible, with the option to schedule sessions outside of school hours, while school-based therapy sessions are typically scheduled during school hours.
Payment: Private speech therapy is often paid for out of pocket or through private insurance, while school-based therapy is typically covered by the school district.
Goals: Private speech therapy may focus more on individualized goals tailored to the specific needs of the child, while school-based therapy may focus more on goals related to academic success and functional communication in the classroom.
Overall, private speech therapy may provide more personalized attention and a greater range of services, while school-based therapy may be more convenient and accessible for families. It's important to consider the individual needs of your child when deciding which type of therapy is best for them.
Currently, we accept Blue Cross Blue Shield and Cigna. For out of network insurances, a superbill is provided for you to submit for reimbursement.

Children continue to develop sounds until 6 or 7 years of age. There is a typical pattern of development – some sounds come early, and some come later. A good guide to typical sound development is how easy it is for others to understand the child’s speech.
Typically, parents can understand their child:
25% of the time by 18 months
50 – 75% of the time by 24 months
75 – 100% of the time by 36 months
It takes longer for a child to be understood by unfamiliar people:
Child aged 1 will be intelligible to strangers 25% of the time
Child aged 2 will be intelligible to strangers 50% of the time
Child aged 3 will be intelligible to strangers 75% of the time
Child aged 4 will be intelligible to strangers 100% of the time
